Salaries for Lee County Government Officials

Recently, a public disclosure request was made inquiring about the salaries of Lee County Department Heads.  This is the information that was provided to the inquirer and Lee County Commissioners:

Department Head  Current Salary 
Social Services  $ 85,611.00
Health Director  $ 80,700.00
General Services  $  67,181.00
Library  $  68,561.00
Parks and Recreation  $  62,474.00
Strategic Services   $  61,006.00
Senior Services  $ 65,694.00
Information Technology  $ 67,050.00
Human Resources  $ 68,468.00
Assistant County Manager/Finance Director  $ 93,287.00
Emergency Management  $ 64,500.00

County Commissioners are paid approximately $9900.00 a year.  The County Manager makes $132,000 per annum.  For 2010-2011, he also received a one-time bonus of $10,o000 and a six-month housing allowance of $800/month between January 2011 through June 2011.

    Great info to have! What about benefits costs, or even a complete list of benefits? In the private sector these are a major employee cost. I have always been told that the benefits in the public sector is one of the reasons that public employees stay on even when they could get better saleries in the private sectors.
    Any info on high paid consultants? It is mentioned in the meeting minutes of the Board of Health that one leader there (Health Director?) is planning to vacaate but will still be available to consult?
    Isn’t the Sheriff a Depaartment Head? I wouldn’t take that job for the salaries listed above.

    • We’ll acquire and post the benefits info for you. Generally, private sector benefits packages are estimated at between 15-20% of pay. However, I seem to recall that Lee County’s benefits packages cost us about 25% of the annual pay. The Sheriff is an independently elected official. We’ll acquire information on his pay and benefits and post them for your review. We have just two recurring consultants/contractors that I know about- the EDC Director and his Admin Assistant. Their combined salaries are $142,963 and their benefits packages cost $38,656 (27% of salary).
