Any of you who are ‘fortunate’ enough to be on Bobby Etheridge’s NC-02 mailing list recently received a color flyer touting all the great things he has done for our district in recent voting history. Now we know why we’ve lost so much of our local textile industry these past few years: because Bobby has ‘spun so much yarn’ by himself.
Etheridge is quick to claim he is creating jobs in our district. His voting record and the local unemployment lines tell a different story. He is so desperate to find something to crow about, he has resorted to claiming his sponsorship of House Bill HR 4437 (2010 Hiring Act) saved or created jobs in Lee County. Note: this bill hasn’t left his own committee in congress since being introduced in January 2010.
Etheridge’s latest claims about saving teachers’ jobs in the second district is bogus as well. This new law is nothing more than a payoff to the teachers’ and federal employees’ unions whom our president was beholden to. The bill has strict guidelines about how the money must be spent and holds the states hostage on balancing their already strained budgets. For every teacher job the bill preserves, there will just as likely be a layoff elsewhere in the state bureaucracy. Remember also, there’s no free lunch in congress. We taxpayers will be footing the bill for this latest $26B tax-and-spend boondoggle the liberals in congress have hoisted on us.
Etheridge has more than stretched the truth on much of his voting record and his work in congress. With representatives like him serving constituents, is it any wonder recent polling shows the lowest voter confidence in the congress since they began tracking these statistics more than 30 years ago?
But even more shameful is Etheridge’s recurring and scandalous use of congressional publishing and franking privileges to promote himself across the district using taxpayer money. In past elections he was known to have dispatched self-promoting education-related materials through Harnett and Lee County schools, using liberal school officials as his proxy campaign stooges, and requiring school kids to be his couriers taking promotional materials about his voting record home for parental review. His latest color flyer is no less unethical. He is violating the spirit of the law in using taxpayer funds to promote himself during an active campaign season.
Etheridge is no less shameful in permitting his liberal loyalists to erect over-sized signs along roadways in Lee County, well before the 45-day period that signs are permitted. His signs along Route 42 west of Sanford violate several county ordinances, but Etheridge and his campaigners really don’t seem to care. It’s all part of his shameless pursuit of an 8th term in the congress.
How about joining me in telling Bobby it’s time to come home, for good!? Vote for Renee Ellmers on November 2nd and send Bob back to his tobacco farm in 2011.
